Dr Jonathan King grew up in South Africa, and graduated from the University of Cape Town in 1982. Continuing at Cape Town University he studied the effects of an exercise programme on children with exercise-induced asthma, leading to a Masters degree in Sport Science (MSc awarded in 1986). What is a Sports Physician?
A Sports Physician is a Medical Practitioner who is committed to excellence in the practice of medicine as it applies to all aspects of physical activity. On 17 May 2007 the Minister for Health and Ageing, the Hon Tony Abbott MHR, has decided that a case has been made for recognising the discipline of Sport and Exercise Medicine as a medical specialty. This follows advice on the matter from the Australian Medical Council. This completes Stage 1 of the AMC recognition process. Treatments available   Clinic Hours

    Advice regarding specific exercises to hasten healing of an injured joint, muscle or tendon discussion about various options to manage a specific problem injury.

    Procedures such as:

    * Dry needling

    * Administering medication to an inflamed area by iontophoresis (a painless way of administering corticosteroid).

    * Fitting of orthotics if indicated for lower limb problems.

  • * Injection of corticosteroid to a joint or around a tendon
  • * Referral to other practitioners such as:
    • *physiotherapists and massage therapists
    • *podiatrists
    • *dietitians
    • *surgeons
